The 4 types of barracks are where you can train your soldiers.

 The number of trained soldiers and the speed of training can be increased by upgrading the tent. As you upgrade the building, you can unlock a higher level of soldiers.

 Note: you can't upgrade the building and train troops simultaneously. You can promote the lower tier of troops to the next higher tier by tapping the green arrow.
