You can run out of food quickly because units consume it constantly; eventually, you might run out of food altogether. The food you grow will not be considered because you are essentially making up for lost ground. To find out how much food your units consume, visit the board that resembles a billboard. The structure, which resembles a garage, is a troop information building located to the left of the command center. Inside the structure, you can discover data on total food consumption.
